International Baccalaureate at ISB

An International Baccalaureate® (IB) education aims to transform students and schools as they learn, through dynamic cycles of inquiry, action and reflection. Teachers enable and support students as they develop the approaches to learning they need – for both academic and personal success.

IB programmes aim to help students explore and construct their own personal and cultural identities.

An IB Education…

  • Centers on learners
  • Puts the learner at the helm of his or her learning
  • Develops effective approaches to teaching and learning
  • Works within global contexts, helping students understand different languages and cultures
  • Explores significant content, developing disciplinary, and interdisciplinary understanding that meets rigorous international standards

The IB is different from other curricula because it…

  • Encourages students to think critically and challenge what they are told
  • Is independent of governments and national systems, and therefore able to incorporate best practice from a range of international frameworks and curricula
  • Encourages students to consider both their local and international environment

Preschool & Lower School: The Primary Years Programme

Founded on a philosophy that recognizes a child’s natural curiosity, creativity, and ability to reflect, the PYP generates a stimulating and challenging learning environment to nurture those assets and foster a lifelong love of learning in every child.

The PYP has defined its core principles and designed a framework for schools around the world, all while inspired by its vision of who the IB learner should be: an inquirer, knowledgeable, a thinker, a communicator, principled, open-minded, caring, a risk-taker, balanced, and reflective.

The PYP also prepares students to become active, caring, lifelong learners who demonstrate respect for themselves and others and have the capacity to participate in the world around them.

Middle School: The Middle Years Programme (MYP)

A challenging framework that encourages students to make practical connections between their studies and the real world, the IB’s MYP is inclusive by design — students of all interests can benefit from their participation and develop strong critical skills.

Developing the Whole Child

Each of the IB’s programmes is committed to the development of students according to the IB learner profile.

It describes a broad range of human capacities and responsibilities that go hand in hand with academic success, and implies a commitment to help all members of the school community to learn to respect themselves, others, and the world around them.

The learner profile aims to develop students who are:

  • Inquirers
  • Knowledgeable
  • Thinkers
  • Communicators
  • Principled
  • Open-minded
  • Caring
  • Risk-takers
  • Balanced
  • Reflective
