Dr. Ali Khan graduated Summa Cum Laude with Honors in Political and Biological Sciences from University of Southern California, and received his Doctor of Medicine degree, with academic distinction and honors, from University of California, Los Angeles. He then completed an internship at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center and performed his ophthalmology residency at Wills Eye Hospital, where he was selected as Chief Resident. Dr. Khan also completed his retina fellowship at Wills Eye Hospital, where he was awarded the Michels Fellowship Foundation Award for being recognized as one of the Top 3 Retina Fellows in the country. Prior to returning to Mid Atlantic Retina, Dr. Khan was a faculty member in the UCLA Department of Ophthalmology and a retina surgeon with the Doheny & Stein Eye Institutes.
Dr. Khan is board certified in ophthalmology. He is an active member of the Retina Service at Wills Eye Hospital, and is an Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology at Sidney Kimmel Medical College of Thomas Jefferson University.
Dr. Ali Khan is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, American Society of Retina Specialists and the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology. He has authored and reviewed numerous scientific publications and textbook chapters on vitreoretinal diseases, and he has been an invited speaker to present scientific papers and abstracts at national ophthalmic meetings. He is actively involved as a clinical investigator in several collaborative trials and studies on various conditions including age-related macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, novel retinal surgical techniques, and retinal detachment repair.
Dr. Ali Khan was born and raised in Los Angeles, CA. He trained at Wills Eye Hospital for both his Ophthalmology Residency, where he was Chief Resident, and Vitreoretinal Surgery Fellowship.
Dr. Khan is happy to return to his ophthalmology “home” with his wife, Avita, and toddler son, Zain. As the newest member of the Mid Atlantic Retina team, he is excited to work alongside his former mentors who share his dedication to providing world-class clinical and surgical care, training the next generation of vitreoretinal surgeons and participating in cutting-edge clinical research.
